The Northern Spy apple tree has been known to take upwards of a decade to produce fruit, unless grafted to a non-standard rootstock. The fruit is large, round and has a tendency to be slightly irregular in shape. Northern Spy apples are mostly green with vertical segments of red and the white flesh is crisp, juicy and tart. It's an extremely popular apple for pies and baking. Thousands of tonnes of Northern Spy apples are sold as peelers to the processing market every year!
